Street Fighter veteran Poongko recently faced Itabashi Zangief at Taiwan Fighter Major 2016 and landed a grapple that compelled his opponent to shake his hand in respect. During the last round of their second match, Itabashi caught Poongko’s Guile in Zangief’s Cyclone Lariat. When properly landed, this can easily be followed-up by an inescapable Critical Art by Zangief that does devastating damage. But where most players would have already begun unleashing a barrage of barely understandable expletives, Poongko decided to defy the laws of Street Fighter V:
Leaving commentators aghast and Itabashi laughing in disbelief, Poongko turned the tables on Zangief’s Bolshoi Russian Suplex with a few grapples of his own to win the match. It appears that a trade between Guile and Zangief happened right before Zangief’s Cyclone Lariat. The colliding attacks may have been the culprit behind the Guile’s grapple-fest.
